Attorneys for State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) sent a cease-and-desist letter to Alabama Values PAC, following a mailer sent to voters with false information on Simpson’s voting record.
Alabama Values PAC said information referencing an issue involving college tuition was printed in error. However, Simpson said other claims in the mailer were also false.
“Specifically, Alabama Values PAC has falsely accused Matt Simpson of prioritizing the following:
- Free College for Illegals
- Legalizing Bribes for Elected Officials
- Early Parole for Violent Felons
- Higher Taxes on Firearms”
Simpson’s attorneys say none of the accusations are correct and in fact, Simpson, who is a prosecutor, works “to send criminals to jail.”
The Agricola Law Firm, representing Simpson, demanded a retraction, a notification to all voters who received the mailer, and demanded that the PAC preserve all documentation relating in any way to Simpson and his campaign.
Alabama Values PAC said it has already sent a follow-up mailer correcting the allegation about college tuition but stands behind other claims.
