After an 11-year hiatus, EA Sports is set to release their college football video game next Friday, July 19. Due to legal disputes between the NCAA, Electronic Arts, college athletes, and others regarding the usage of college athletes' likenesses in video games, the NCAA did not renew its licensing deal with EA, causing the 11-year period without the game.
In 2021, EA Sports partnered with the Collegiate Licensing Company, allowing them to use the official uniforms, stadiums, and traditions of the NCAA football teams. Later that year, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allowed college athletes to receive compensation for their likenesses, EA Sports was able to utilize players’ names and likenesses in the new video game.
On Wednesday, EA Sports released their Top 100 players list with Alabama landing six of the top spots.
