No. 12 Alabama fell behind early, but a six-run sixth inning helped to propel the Crimson Tide to a 10-6 win over No. 23 Southern Mississippi.

The Crimson Tide came into Tuesday’s midweek matchup looking to bounce back after dropping a weekend series against Auburn. Southern Miss was no easy task for a midweek game that usually involves an easier opponent.

The Golden Eagles jumped out on top early, taking a 4-0 lead by the third inning. A two-run home run in the fourth from Alabama’s Garrett Staton cut the Southern Miss lead in half.

Alabama blew the game open, scoring six runs in the sixth inning to take a 8-4 lead. Brady Neal sparked the sixth inning offense with a bases loaded double driving in three runs. Two batters later, Richie Bonomolo, Jr. crushed a two run home run to cap off the scoring in the sixth.

Both teams added two runs apiece in the eighth inning. Alabama closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning to secure a nice 10-6 bounceback win against a ranked Southern Mississippi squad.

Matthew Heiberger came into the game in the fifth inning and recorded the final out of the inning to get the Crimson Tide out of a jam. Heiberger returned for the sixth inning and struck out all three Southern Mississippi batters to get credit for the win.

Carson Ozmer recorded the final five outs, giving up two hits and striking out one, to record his 10th save of the season.

Alabama will host a weekend series with Mississippi State beginning Friday at 6 p.m. The game can be streamed on SEC Network+.
