One of the three people killed Wednesday in a fatal boat crash on Lewis Smith Lake was a Snead town council member, and another was a fire district commissioner in Mississippi.
Joey M. Broom, 58, was killed when a Nitro bass boat struck a center console boat.
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of council member, Joey Broom," the town posted on Facebook. "Please keep the Broom family & the Town of Snead in your prayers."
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Broom and two others were onboard the center console boat that was hit. John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman, and Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Miss., were also killed.
Little was a commissioner for Reservoir Fire Protection in Mississippi.
"It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Commissioner Jeff Little," the fire district stated. "Jeff has served on the Reservoir Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners with honor and passion since 2014. His service and guidance has helped Reservoir Fire prosper during the rapid growth of our department and community. He will be dearly missed. Our heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues."
The crash occurred during the Tackle Warehouse Invitational for Major League Fishing (MLF).
MLF angler Flint Davis, of Leesburg, Ga., was injured.
