The Birmingham Police Department said a photo of a police officer asleep in his police cruiser is being addressed.
The photo was posted to Facebook and shared over 900 times.
"In one of the deadliest cities in Americuh…this is our Police. Welcome to Birmingham," the poster stated.
After investigating the matter, the police determined that the officer was off-duty and had just completed his shift.
"The Birmingham Police Department is aware of a video circulating on social media involving an off-duty BPD officer who had just completed his shift and was observed asleep inside his assigned take-home marked patrol unit," police stated. "This matter is being addressed internally, with appropriate measures taken to ensure accountability moving forward."
Birmingham has been consistently ranked the state's most dangerous city, with 14.2 violent crimes and 52.6 property crimes per 1,000 residents.
