Homewood City Councilman Nick Sims posted an image on Thursday comparing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to Nazis.

The image says, "Somewhere in America, a young Hispanic girl is hiding in an attic writing a diary," a reference to Anne Frank, a young victim of the Holocaust.

The post comes as assaults on ICE agents hit an all-time high and follows a targeted shooting attack on an ICE detention facility.

Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, politicians from across the aisle called for the rhetoric around the term Nazi to stop.

Sims, who was reelected in the August 26 election, joined the council in 2020.

Sims did not respond to a request for comment from 1819 News asking him if he would like to elaborate on the offending post.
