It will be a homecoming of sorts for the music of Jimmy Buffett. It had all started in Mobile's Admiral Semmes Hotel bar, the Admiral's Corner. Now, the music and some of the decades-long musicians are coming to Buffett's growing up home – Mobile.
A free music and costume fest, Son of a Sailor, will be on Saturday, September 20, at downtown Mobile's Riverview Plaza, Dauphin Street and Cathedral Square.
This fest may have more class acts than any free fest you've been to.
For early Buffett fans, there will be the "Coral Reefer Jam." It will feature songs and stories by those who played alongside Buffett over the decades: Keith Sykes, Roger Bartlett, Jim Mayer and Mobile's own Will Kimbrough. The official trailer of the Jam reads:
We’re bringing together Coral Reefers past and present for an unforgettable jam session to play classic tunes, share deep-cuts, and trade tales from the road! Witness Keith Sykes (co-writer of “Volcano” and writer of “Coast of Marseilles”), Roger Bartlett (original Coral Reefer guitarist), Jim Mayer (Coral Reefer bassist since 1988, Co-writer of “Jamaica Mistaica”, “Only Time Will Tell” and more), and Will Kimbrough (writer of “Bubbles Up” and longtime Buffett collaborator) jamming, riffing, and keeping the party going together on stage. You don’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind FREE show!

Four other acts include:
Jammy Buffet
Darai & The Drops
Ryan Baltrop & Slide Bayou
Blow House Parade Brass Band
