Danny Gokey is a 44-year-old former church music director from Milwaukee’s ‘Faith Builders International Ministries.’ He was the third-place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol. His American Idol audition was under personal distress, just a month after the death of his wife in July 2008. She had encouraged the audition.
Gokey’s early hits included “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me” and the album “Hope in Front of Me.” Later still, his Christian music includes “Haven’t Seen it Yet” and “Cross Rhythms.”
Even though Gokey did not win American Idol, he was invited back to sing duets with Alabama’s Lionel Richie – ‘Hello,’ ‘Just Go,’ and ‘All Night Long.’
In 2009, Gokey sang with other former idol contestants on American Idols Live! Tour.
Gokey is the first popular singer since Buddy Holley to be recognized for his distinctive eyeglasses. He launched Danny Gokey Eyewear in 2012 and has sold over 1.7 million pairs.

Gokey is an active Republican, a supporter of President Trump and questioner of the COVID vaccine.
When I sing songs, I love to put emotion into it. I want people to feel what I feel and just disappear for a moment.
