The South Alabama Veterans Council said on Saturday that it still supports Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) commissioner Kent Davis.

Governor Kay Ivey called another State Board of Veterans Affairs (SBVA) meeting for Tuesday to consider immediately removing Davis. John Saxon, an attorney representing Davis, said last week, “Davis remains committed to honoring his word and his agreement with the Governor and her staff, to resign effective December 31.”

Ivey has maintained that ADVA mishandled American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Davis resigned on September 9, effective December 31, after previously declining to resign. An SBVA committee approved a report on October 9 stating Davis and ADVA did nothing wrong with the funds.

Members of the SBVA unanimously voted at a meeting on October 10 to ask Davis to consider rescinding his resignation.

The meeting will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Old Archives Room of the State Capitol in Montgomery.

The South Alabama Veterans Council said they had secured a bus for members to travel to Montgomery for the meeting on Tuesday.

"The status of the resignation of the Director of the ADVA is back on the State Government and Governor's agenda. A meeting has been scheduled by the Governor for Tuesday, 22 October 2024 at 1400 hrs. at the State Capital to once again ask for the resignation of Admiral Davis. We have secured a bus to travel to Montgomery to show our support for the ADVA and its Director and the protection of Veterans' Rights in Alabama,” a South Alabama Veterans Council spokesperson said on Facebook on Saturday.
