FOLEY — Voters in South Baldwin County municipalities turned out in steady numbers for their local elections on Tuesday.
Perhaps the most heated race was in Orange Beach. Voting officials saw over 1,600 voters by noon. Voters are casting ballots for mayor and council seats.
In Gulf Shores, the mayor and all council seats were contested, with a heavy focus on the three-way race for mayor.
Christi Watkins, Foley's assistant city clerk and elections manager, said turnout was steady there.
"Turnout shows the voters are dedicated to their city," Watkins told 1819 News. "We have a great community here. We have great community support, and we have a great city council and people who are willing and eager to work for our council and serve our people."
Foley voters will choose new council members, but Mayor Ralph Hellimch was unopposed.
Polls close at 7 p.m. Results will be posted at polling locations.
