Spanish Fort Mayor Michael McMillan has announced he will seek a fourth term.

McMillan was first elected mayor in 2012 after serving on the planning commission, city council and as director of the cooperative improvement districts.

Under his leadership, Spanish Fort has focused on capital improvements, transportation, parks and public safety. McMillan said the accomplishments are due to effective management and planning.

Projects include Spirit Park, the Integrity Park expansion, the Spanish Fort Community Center, the Spanish Fort Public Library, the Senior Center and municipal facilities.

McMillan highlighted the preservation of waterfront property along Bay Minette Creek, Blakely River and the Mobile Causeway. The city received federal funding for those projects to develop public facilities and to preserve natural resources.

"Whether it's working to keep our citizens safe or providing recreational, educational, or business opportunities to enhance quality of life for our families, I've done my best to help keep the City of Spanish Fort moving forward," McMillan said. "There is always more to be done, and I ask the people of Spanish Fort to allow me to serve them for four more years. I'm excited about our plans for additional sidewalks on Jimmy Faulkner and Spanish Main, as well as new recreation facilities—including Pickleball courts now under construction and future ballparks to serve our youth—all while continuing to plan for and manage growth."

Public safety has been a top priority during McMillan's time as mayor. The city has transitioned the Spanish Fort Volunteer Fire Rescue into a city department and is currently building a new Fire Station. Plans also include building a fire training facility.

The Spanish Fort Police Department recently earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA)—widely recognized as the "Gold Standard in Public Safety."

McMillan is a member of the Baldwin County Republican executive committee. He serves on the boards of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, Prodisee Pantry and the Alabama League of Municipalities. He is a member of the D'Olive Watershed advisory committee and the Baldwin County Mayor's Association.

McMillan owns McMillan Sales. He and his wife, Patricia, have been married for 40 years. They have two daughters and four grandchildren. They are members of Christ the King Church.
