A health care marketing professional and volunteer coach is running to be the next mayor of Spanish Fort.
Brad Bass announced his campaign Monday night.
As a longtime resident, Bass said he understands the community's needs.
“Spanish Fort is at a crossroads,” said Bass. “Our retail developments are either empty or struggling to retain the businesses we have. While brick-and-mortar retailers are declining across the country, there’s still interest in Spanish Fort. Unfortunately, some of the recent interest hasn’t followed the city’s comprehensive plan and threatens residential areas across the city. We have thousands upon thousands of square feet sitting empty in the Spanish Fort Town Center, and that’s something we must work to remedy.”
Bass said athletic facilities have not been a priority, despite a growing community with many young families. He said green spaces, natural parks and walking spaces are a welcome addition, but children’s recreation should be a priority.
Bass’s platform is all about public safety and transparency, retail revitalization, athletic facility improvement and transportation.
Bass and his wife Joanna have two daughters, Anna Katherine and Sadie. The family attends Spanish Fort United Methodist Church.
