Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis was sworn into office on Monday at City Hall.

Mobile County Circuit Judge Wesley Pipes performed the swearing-in of Cheriogotis.

Cheriogotis thanked the crowd of people who piled into the council chambers to watch him take the oath of office.

“Standing before this crowd today is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Cheriogotis said. “To the citizens of the city of Mobile, thank you. Serving as your mayor is not a responsibility I will take lightly. You have placed your trust in me, and I will work every single day to continually earn that trust.”

The new mayor also thanked God and his family. He became emotional during the speech.

Mayor Sandy Stimpson was unable to attend the ceremony as he was being honored in Montgomery.
