Two Birmingham-area police departments have parted ways with officers after internal investigations into the use of Flock Safety cameras.
ABC 33/40 reported the Moody Police Department terminated an officer on July 16 after determining the officer violated the department’s license plate reader policy.
An officer with the Springville Police Department resigned after an internal audit on June 23 found an officer conducted multiple searches involving a family member. The family member was notified of the unauthorized searches.
The information from both departments was forwarded to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) for review. The names of the officers have not been released.
Flock Safety cameras have recently come under fire after citizens voiced privacy concerns. Law enforcement officials who support Flock say it adds to investigative tools and helps track crime.
