During an appearance on "The Benny Show" with Benny Johnson, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed the "attack" on U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) that occurred Tuesday night in Minneapolis. The incident referenced saw Omar sprayed by a man with an unknown liquid at a town hall event.

Johnson asked Tuberville if he agreed with President Donald Trump's assertion that Omar orchestrated the circumstance.

"Well, this person sat on the front seat, on the front row, right in front of Omar, and then took off running to the right," said Tuberville. "I mean, if you're going to have somebody that goes after somebody, they're not going to run away from them. You could tell that was pretty much all staged."

The lawmaker explained his reasoning for supporting Trump's view on the incident, citing Omar's alleged pattern of deception and corruption.

"And again, I'm just saying that because you look at what the Democrats have done and how they act, and the things that they say," Tuberville stated. "They're supposedly for our country. And of course, she is under big time investigation. She's trying to get the heat off her. At the end of the day, this is the Democrats playing games. Ilhan Omar needs to be in jail. She's as guilty as they come."

He added, "I would hope nobody, especially a Republican, would do something like this, or somebody that is conservative, a good American. That's not how you do things."

"But it's all fishy, and President Trump is exactly right. She's been a phony on everything she's done, so I wouldn't doubt that this would just match up with all that," Tuberville continued.
