Stan Cooke announced on Wednesday that he will not run for Alabama Republican Party chairman.

Cooke said in a statement to 1819 News, “Due to a healthcare crisis in my family it will be impossible for me to dedicate the next few months to the ALGOP duties that need full time attention.”

Cooke said that he pledges his full support to State Rep. Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) to become the next ALGOP chairman.

“Scott Stadthagen will advance the Republican Party into the future and defeat the enemies of UNITY. Scott will take a strong stand against corrupt elected politicians and corrupt Party leaders,” Cooke said. “We as Republicans cannot elect a Chairman that is not capable of managing the complexities of the Party nor should we elect an individual that is morally bankrupt. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Announced ALOP chairman candidates are Stadthagen, former Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill and Joan Reynolds.
