State Rep. Debbie Wood (R-Valley) announced on Monday that she was resigning her House seat.
Wood said during a legislative update to the Chambers County Commission on Monday, "Today, I deliver my final legislative update with a full heart and deep gratitude. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the citizens of Chambers and Lee County. I began my journey in public service in 2002, right here in this courthouse, and it feels fitting to return here to announce my retirement."
"In January, my husband accepted a job in Pensacola. Being apart during the legislative session made it clear how much I value our time together. On June 9th, we will celebrate 35 years of marriage, and I am reminded that my first and most important calling is to be his wife. While this decision to step away and move has not been easy, I know in my heart it is the right one. Representing you—both locally and in Montgomery—has been a privilege I will always cherish. This community has supported, challenged, and inspired me throughout my service, and I am deeply thankful for the trust you placed in me," Wood said. "Though I may be leaving office, this community will always remain close to me — especially with my grandbaby here, which ensures I'll be back often for visits. Thank you for believing in me, guiding me, and allowing me the great honor of serving you. I will forever be grateful for your support and friendship."
During her time in the House, Wood was a strong advocate of election integrity legislation, repeatedly sponsoring bills to mandate post-election audits.
