Lawrence County Sheriff's Deputies responded to State Rep. Ernie Yarbrough's (R-Trinity) residence on Saturday evening following an accidental shooting involving two of the legislator's children.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Brian Covington, Yarbrough's wife called 911 to report that his 6-year-old son had accidentally shot his 13-year-old brother in the back of the shoulder.

"The parents took the child to the emergency room prior to deputies arriving and then later took him to the Children's Hospital in Birmingham," Covington told the Decatur Daily.

At the time of the shooting, Yarbrough and his wife, along with four other children, were inside the home.

Per the sheriff's office, the case is under investigation and is being forwarded to the Lawrence County District Attorney's Office.

The lawmaker's son is reportedly back home and recovering.
