State Rep. Phillip Pettus (R-Killen) has officially announced his reelection campaign for the Alabama House of Representatives in the 2026 election.

Pettus, a former Alabama State Trooper, has been in the House since first winning the seat in 2014. Since then, Pettus says he has shown “proven conservative leadership” by supporting hundreds of millions in tax cuts for Alabama families, including the reduction of the state tax on groceries.

In 2024, Pettus sponsored and passed a statewide bill capping property tax increases, preventing sudden spikes in property taxes. The cap on property tax increases went into effect in 2025 and prohibits property taxes from increasing more than 7% in a year.

Pettus also authored and passed a local bill specifically exempting seniors in Lauderdale County from property tax increases. Pettus’ constitutional amendment passed with 96% of the vote.

“As your representative, I’ve fought to protect your hard-earned dollars and defend the conservative values that make our state strong,” Pettus said. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done, but there’s more to do—and I’m ready to continue delivering for the people of District 1.”

Pettus also noted that he is a “staunch supporter of President Donald Trump’s America First agenda,” saying he shares the President’s priorities of securing the borders, protecting American jobs, and putting families first.

“I proudly support President Trump because he fights for the same values I do—faith, freedom, and fairness,” Pettus said.

He continued, “Our people deserve good roads, safe neighborhoods, and strong schools—and they deserve a government that does more with less. That’s what I’ve delivered, and that’s what I’ll keep fighting for.”
