State Rep. Shane Stringer (R-Citronelle) said he wants to know more about a bomb found underwater at the J.R. Converse Reservoir dam.

The reservoir is the water source for the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS).

Bomb squads responded last Wednesday and detonated the improvised explosive device (IED) after MAWSS said a diver discovered the bomb during routine maintenance. However, speculation that the IED was actually discovered weeks earlier has many, including Stringer, concerned.

"The fact that they supposedly found it, you know, a week or two ahead of time or longer, that's really concerning to me," Stringer said on FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show." "I just can't understand that part. If you find something, you'd want to get it out immediately. So I don't know about that. I do know that working in that area with the sheriff's department for 18 years, we have found a lot of stuff in the lake, from an airplane to stolen guns to everything else, and I guess a lot of people throw stuff in there. So, I'm just curious if it's just gonna be a scenario like that or if it is something with some very evil intentions."

MAWSS has not answered media inquiries about when the IED was first discovered.
