MONTGOMERY — State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore) endorsed Dick Brewbaker on Friday in the Republican primary runoff election for the second congressional district.

Albritton said Brewbaker would provide "good representation" for the district in Washington, D.C.

"We need somebody that knows what to do, how to do, and when to do. Dick's the guy that can do this," Albritton said.

Brewbaker will face political newcomer Caroleene Dobson in the primary runoff on Tuesday. Albritton also sought the Republican nomination but narrowly missed qualifying for the runoff.

"To get his support as the person in this race who knows the most about what's going to be best for Mobile, Washington, [and] Clarke County, it's a real honor for me," Brewbaker said.

Both Brewbaker's and Dobson's campaigns are mostly self-funded. Brewbaker has loaned his campaign $1.6 million. Dobson has loaned her campaign $992,000. Brewbaker was the top vote-getter with 37% in the crowded March primary. Dobson finished second with 25%. A runoff election is being held on Tuesday since no candidate received 50%-plus support.

"We're certainly not assuming anything. I'm going to spend the rest of the day campaigning. Saturday, I'll be campaigning in Pike County. Monday, I'll be in Eufaula," Brewbaker said.
