ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum would enjoy a notable level of name recognition should he enter Alabama's 2026 U.S. Senate race, according to State Sen. Sam Givhan (R-Huntsville).

On Thursday's episode of WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," Givhan told Jackson that he believed Finebaum has decided to run.

"Just hearing that it's more than likely that an announcement is forthcoming in the not-too-distant future. So, sounds like he's getting in, from the chatter I'm picking up," Givhan said.

Despite Finebaum's already established name recognition, Givhan is unsure how he would fare in the election, given his past confrontational interactions with Alabamians on the radio.

"You know the thing is, you don't have to buy a name ID, because the name ID is fairly well known for those individuals," Givhan said."Now you know, you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Finebaum has made a career of ticking people off. And yeah, they tune in to listen to them, but are they going to vote for them? I don't know," Givhan added.

The Republican primary election for Alabama's soon-to-be vacant open U.S. Senate seat is scheduled for May 16, 2026, while the general election will be November 3, 2026.

Should Finebaum enter the race for Senate, he will be facing off against U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, Morgan Murphy and Rodney Walker.
