State Sen. Tim Melson (R-Florence) has returned home to Alabama after suffering a heart attack in South Korea last month.

1819 News reported on July 27 that Melson had suffered a heart attack while on a legislative trip abroad with other Alabama senators. After the event, Melson reportedly had to be resuscitated and placed on a ventilator.

Melson has been recovering in South Korea for weeks with family members by his side.

On Monday, Melson's daughter shared on Facebook that the senator had finally returned to the state to continue healing up.

"Happy to report that we are now back in Alabama where my dad will receive the remainder of his care," she wrote. "Your continued prayers are appreciated."

"And to South Korea, the doctors, and rest of his care team — we may have spoken two languages, but one thing was clearly communicated: kindness. We'll forever be grateful for the role you played in my dad's treatment and recovery."
