State Sen. April Weaver (R-Brierfield) announced on Tuesday that she has been selected as a member of the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2025 Fellowship class, allowing her and others to learn and implement limited government policies.
Club for Growth, the Washington, D.C.-based non-profit, has been involved in Alabama’s politics for some time. The organization boasts a national network of “over 500,000 pro-growth, limited government Americans.” Club for Growth has been instrumental in electing some Alabama leaders, such as U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in his bid for the second congressional district in 2020. According to the group, the Club for Growth Foundation Fellowship program “equips civic leaders to talk about a free society, economic liberty, and limited government, expanding the number of pro-growth Americans who are able and willing to make the case for these ideas across a broad cross-section of society.”
During the year-long program, Weaver and others will participate in activities to help them advocate for economic freedom and limited government within their communities.
“Throughout my life and during my service in President Trump’s first administration, I have been guided by my deep conservative beliefs, the traditional values instilled in me by my parents, and a full understanding that the free market system and strict limits on government intrusion are essential ingredients in a successful economy,” Weaver said. “Since President Trump’s election in November, failed liberal policies of the past are being abandoned across the country, and the fundamental tenets of freedom and liberty that those of us selected for the Fellowship program embrace are taking center stage once again.”
The fellowship includes 216 fellows from 41 states who engage in monthly virtual meetings and two in-person seminars held in the spring and the fall. The virtual meetings are academic in nature, “providing history and substance on a variety of issues from subject matter experts and national leaders. During the meetings, Fellows engage in conversations about best messaging practices, policy solutions, all the while contextualizing each subject matter based on their background or leadership role for maximum impact.”
"Through her civic leadership, Sen. Weaver has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing and protecting the economic principles that are at the heart of the American spirit – free markets, limited government, and individual liberty,” said Club for Growth Foundation president David McIntosh.
