On Thursday's episode of "The Dale Jackson Show," State. Sen. Sam Givhan (R-Huntsville) said the continued speculation over a Bruce Pearl U.S. Senate run was a "distraction" pushed by Alabama fans to pull him away from coaching.

Show host Dale Jackson said a recent poll showed that Pearl had 12.9% support if he were to run for U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville's (R-Auburn) soon-to-be-vacant seat.

Givahn said that 12.9% was made up of "Alabama fans who want Bruce Pearl gone from Auburn."

"Give me a break. Quit messing with my coach," he said.

"Bruce Pearl is worried about this basketball season. He is not going to run in a May primary on something — I mean, that is assuming the Alabama GOP lets him run and waives the rule because he breached it to be qualified, and it requires a super majority of the steering committee to allow that. He's not going to go through the basketball season and go, 'Oh, I got a month and a half to campaign.' I mean, come on."

Givan added, "He's getting ready for this season, and this is all a distraction."
