State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) recently expressed outrage at the federal government's slow response to Hurricane Helene and questioned the Biden-Harris administration's motives following reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) squandered millions of dollars on aiding criminal aliens.

"It made me furious because any fool would know that hurricanes do happen and you need to have money in the bank, so to speak, or in your department to address those contingencies if they do occur," Orr said Friday on WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show." "However, the Biden administration, Kamala Harris and company have decided to spend all that money on housing illegal immigrants and throwing out the red carpet and just ushering them in our country and then housing them in hotels and elsewhere and blew all the money. And then when it comes time to spend it on American citizens in their time of need, they start whining they don't have the money."

On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said FEMA could meet the "immediate needs" of those in the southeastern U.S. ravaged by Helene. However, the agency would be virtually bankrupt for the remainder of hurricane season.

"[I]t ought to infuriate every one of our fellow American citizens, whether you're a Democrat or Republican. But that's the kind of administration we have currently. And that's the kind of administration that wants four more years under Kamala Harris," Orr continued. "Heck, fire. I mean, that's what the agency's name, Federal Emergency Management Administration. Emergencies, we don't know when they're going to happen, but they do happen. And so you need the funds there to take care of them. But no, they do the easy thing and blow it on a bunch of illegals and people that they want in the country to tilt the balance of power for whatever reason. And it's absolutely despicable."

Orr said that, given the federal government's botched attempt at sending aid to the areas hardest hit by Helene, it's hard not to question whether politics are involved.

"I don't know if they're trying to hurt the turnout in Western North Carolina. Just let those people up there in the mountains twist on the vine. Of course, Asheville is a liberal city. It votes blue regularly. But all of the surrounding counties, less populated, but very much Trump territory. And I don't know if they're just letting them, you know, not going to be able to pull it together to be able to vote or want to vote, or they move because they no longer have a house and they can't worry about voting. I don't know if they think it'll swing North Carolina to the Harris camp. It never ceases to amaze me just the nature of the Biden administration. So you would not like to think such thoughts that they would withhold or not be able to help people. "But I've been looking on Twitter, like I know many others have, and seeing the pleas and the problems and the, and the actions of FEMA and the feds there in Western North Carolina. And it is extremely troubling to see the federal response a week later to this natural disaster."
