No. 15 Alabama took the season-long sweep of UAB with a 5-3 victory on Tuesday thanks to a seventh-inning home run from Garrett Staton.

The Crimson Tide came into Tuesday’s midweek matchup needing to bounce back after dropping a weekend series against Mississippi State. In-state foe UAB was no easy task, as they went blow for blow against Alabama.

Alabama took an early lead in the second inning with an RBI single from Will Hodo. UAB responded with a run in the third to tie the game up and tacked on another in the fifth inning to grab a one-run lead. A two-run home run from Garrett Norton upped the lead to 3-2.

Once again, the Blazers tied up the game with a run in the top of the seventh. In the Alabama half of the seventh inning, Staton came to the plate and crushed a solo home run over the center field fence to put the Crimson Tide in front.

Brennen Norton and Staton finished with a home run and two hits, leading the Crimson Tide offense. Richie Bonomolo Jr.’s only hit of the night was an RBI double in the seventh to give Alabama an insurance run.

Bobby Alcock got the start on the hill pitching 3.2 innings and giving up just one run on four hits. Aeden Finateri received the win for Alabama, pitching a shutout in the seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out two batters. Carson Ozmer closed it down in the ninth securing his 12th save of the season. Ozmer allowed just one hit and struck out two, ending any hopes of a UAB comeback.

No. 15 Alabama will travel for a weekend series with No. 9 LSU beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. The opening game will be televised on ESPNU.
