During Friday's broadcast of APTV's "Capitol Journal," Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall addressed the speculation regarding U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville's (R-Auburn) political future and what that could mean for his political future.
Marshall assumed the role of attorney general after receiving an appointment from then-Gov. Robert Bentley, to fill the unexpired term of Luther Strange in 2017, is term-limited and cannot seek reelection for the AG role in 2026.
"Tommy Tuberville hadn't announced [a gubernatorial run]," Marshall explained. "So, there is no open seat, and I have great support for what he has done in the U.S. Senate. If that seat comes open, the Senate has been sort of an overlay interest for what I have had as attorney general — the work I've done federally, the many issues we've been involved with — if that is an open seat, I think we'll be prepared to pivot quickly and make an announcement on whether or not we'd run."
