Stockton residents voted Tuesday to have a say in future developments.

In a 215-161 vote, a new zoning district was created in Baldwin County District 3. A five-person citizens' advisory committee will consider each parcel of land and will draft a plan for future growth.

The vote was made possible after citizens petitioned for a vote.

An 180-day moratorium on new developments will take effect immediately.

The vote is unlikely to impact the Silicon Ranch solar farm project, which is already underway. The company plans to place 2,500 acres of solar panels onto a 4,500-acre site in Stockton. However, residents say they will not stop trying to end the project.

Supporters of the Silicon Ranch project say they appreciate the $350 million investment, which will help power the grid.
