Some viewers of Channel 12 news, WSFA-TV in Montgomery, have been mumbling and grumbling more frequently. The powerful station covers Alabama politics from the state capital.

The grumblers complain that WSFA News has gone woke and is not in alignment with the traditional conservative views and values of Alabama's people and its elected leaders.

Now, a Facebook post by WSFA has reignited that criticism. The station posted on its Facebook page: "Gov. Ivey signs bill expediting Medicaid coverage for pregnant people."

"Pregnant people" is the new term of choice that leftists use for "pregnant women." The same self-styled progressives who have difficulty defining what a woman is will say "pregnant people" to keep from using the W word.

The post was linked to an article by the WSFA News staff that reported Gov. Kay Ivey's signing into law a recently passed bill that provides automatic Medicaid coverage for pregnant women.

Ivey signed the Alabama Maternal Health Care Act into law Thursday.

Rather than reporting the impact on pregnant women, WSFA used the leftist terminology, stating, "The new law will require 'presumptive eligibility' to cover outpatient medical care for pregnant people for up to 60 days while their Medicaid applications are processed."

The governor held a ceremonial signing of the bill at the State Capitol.

Since supporters of the bill ranged all the way from the most conservative and pro-life of Republicans to the most liberal of Democrats, WSFA could have quoted any spokesperson about the bill, from right to left. Who did WSFA select for a quotation?

Excerpt as follows:

ACLU of Alabama Director of Policy and Organizing A’Niya Robinson said in a statement that the bill will save lives and ease the burden of pregnant women who need access to prenatal care early in pregnancy.

“In light of our commitment to making Alabama a safer place to be pregnant and raise a family, the ACLU of Alabama is pleased with the passage of the Alabama Maternal Healthcare Act,” Robinson said. “We are grateful to Representative Lands, Senator Coleman-Madison, and all of the co-sponsors of the bill. We are thrilled to have unanimous and bipartisan support in the legislature and from Governor Ivey.”

Even the ACLU director knew not to use the term "pregnant people." She instead said "pregnant women."

WSFA could have gotten a quote from a conservative spokesman — maybe the Eagle Forum, the Alabama Policy Institute or the Legislative Watchdogs. But no, they chose to quote from the liberal ACLU, which is not in step with Alabama viewpoints.

The WSFA "pregnant people" post got the attention of Alabama people, with over 400 comments by the time this report was written:

Alabama Policy Institute: Women.

Melanie Wallace Colquitt: Pregnant people? Only women can get pregnant!! Stop pandering!!

Danielle Jone Hart: Anyone curious about the fact that is says “pregnant people” not “pregnant women?”

Valerie Wise: …pregnant women.

Sandy Pritchett: Women

Jhaala Curry: Pregnant WOMEN.

Nikola Nadazyyoka-Sallee: DEI going strong in Alabama.

Jane Powell-Brown: Pregnant people??

Ford Boyd: Who would these pregnant “people” be?

Karen Powell:  Women.

Steve Cox: Pregnant people? Go woke and go broke!

Connie Albin: Women. Get it correct.

These comments were followed by dozens of other similar (or stronger) comments from Alabama people who are not woke but know that "pregnant people" automatically means pregnant women. That is something that the WSFA-TV news staff either does not know or progressively refuses to articulate.
