Former FBI special counsel Jack Smith publicly testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday regarding two criminal investigations he led against President Donald Trump during the Biden administration.

Shortly after the hearing concluded, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville), a vocal Trump defender, took to X, accusing Smith of illegitimately targeting and investigating the president through lawfare.

"Jack Smith weaponized his role as DOJ special counsel to wage lawfare against President Trump," Strong said. "In both phony cases, Smith mobilized the full force of our justice system to prosecute and imprison the President of the United States. This unprecedented weaponization can never happen again."

The legislator praised those in the House Judiciary Committee for directly confronting Smith about his role in the president's unwarranted persecution.

"I am proud to see my colleagues on @JudiciaryGOP holding Smith accountable for his gross corruption of our legal system," added Strong.

Strong also said the Trump administration would continue "rooting out deep state bureaucrats like Jack Smith" and that the "time for accountability is now."

"President Trump was targeted by Smith not once, but twice, in fraudulent prosecutorial schemes," he told 1819 News. "Smith's two indictments were political attacks to silence the leader of the America First movement. After the Biden Administration's failed attempts to imprison him, President Trump is back in the White House and rooting out deep state bureaucrats like Jack Smith. The time for accountability is now."

Smith was appointed as Special Counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2022. He was tasked with overseeing the DOJ's criminal investigations into the handling of classified documents and presidential records at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate and the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.
