Parents were scrambling to get their children from Dothan Preparatory Academy on Monday after a possible tornado damaged the school and caused damage in nearby areas.

Roadways were closed and buses parked after the storm damaged the school’s gymnasium and library.

At least five students sustained minor and moderate injuries and police said those injuries were addressed by Dothan Fire, which transported two with injuries to the hospital.

Parents had to make plans to pick up students from the Doug Tew Recreation Center, where school officials set up a reunification point.

Multiple road closures were announced on the Dothan Police Department’s Facebook page, making getting to the school even more difficult.

All students, staff and faculty were accounted for.

A tornado warning was issued Monday afternoon just before the suspected tornado hit.

The National Weather Service will survey the area and determine if the damage was caused by a tornado.
