The Tallassee Police Department has arrested two men in connection with a triple shooting that occurred on Monday.
Devonte Tyus, 20, and Jartavious Jackson, 25, are both charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Tallassee Police chief Todd Buce told 1819 News those occupying the vehicle were a mother and her two children. The children were two years old and nine months old. Investigators believe Tyus and Jackson were shooting at the mother’s vehicle on Alabama Highway 229. Bullets struck the two children.
“It was just a senseless act of violence,” said Buce. “That’s all there was to it. It’s very uncommon for that to happen in Tallassee.”
Both victims survived.
However, somehow, Jackson was also struck by gunfire and went to the hospital for treatment. It is unclear how Jackson was struck, and Buce said there is no evidence that the mother of the children fired a gun.
Tyus and Jackson are being held in the Elmore County Detention Facility on $280,000 in bonds.
