Voters in Sylacauga were undecided on a new mayor and council members in Districts 2 and 4.
Incumbent Mayor Jim Heigl did not secure enough votes to go into a runoff. Instead, challengers Matt Hubbard and Bryan Taunton will go head-to-head in September. Hubbard received 43.7% of the votes and Taunton received 36.96%.
Also in a runoff are District 2’s incumbent Tiffany Nix and challenger A.J. Stamps.
Nix was a vocal supporter of Haitian immigrants in Sylacauga last year, when a council meeting ended in chaos after citizens came forward with concerns.
District 4 incumbent Lee Perryman will enter into a runoff with challenger Tim Vincent.
District 3’s Nate Brewer (65.71%) and District 5’s Laura Barlow Heath (81.67%) won their re-elections.
Greer Wright Bisigani won the District 1 seat in a crowded race against Colton Craft, Mike Landers, Sherrel Mickey and Tina Sanders.
