Taylor Hicks has never forgotten where he came from. Before he won "American Idol" and launched a successful music career, he grew up in the Birmingham area and spent many weekends on East Alabama's Lake Martin. Now, he is going back to give back.
Hicks is giving a free concert on Labor Day weekend on Lake Martin.
The concert will take place on Sunday at 6 p.m. at The Landing at Parker Creek. It is an indoor/outdoor restaurant operated by longtime WBRC sports anchor Herb Winches.

Hicks stated, "Expect a really great live show, I call it 'the roadhouse ramble.' I spent a lot of years playing in all kinds of different roadhouses, and I've got a really great set of music. The sun will be setting, and the weather is going to be great."
Hicks' career took off after he won season 5 of "American Idol" in 2006.
Hicks is an artist, singer, harmonica player, guitarist and gifted songwriter.
A strong presence is expected at the Lake Martin show from Hicks' devoted fan base, known as the "Soul Patrol." Jimmy Buffett had The Parrotheads, and Taylor Hicks has the Soul Patrol.
