The Eufaula Police Department has made an arrest in the death of a teen found dismembered and burned.
Josiah Isaiah McKinney, 19, of Eufaula, is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
The family of Markavious Rumph, Jr., 18, found his body after organizing a community search. Rump was reported missing on May 7, and his body was recovered on May 11 on White Oak Church Road.
Police said they kept some information private in the beginning stages of the investigation to protect the investigation.
“On occasion, the need for information by the public is outweighed by the integrity of the investigation,” said Chief Danny Christ. “Detectives were in contact with the parents on day one of Rumph Jr. being reported missing to build timelines and produce contacts to trace his last known location.”
Detectives determined Rumph was last seen getting into a black Nissan at the Beeline #3 Gas Station on May 6.
“Significant evidence was recovered on day two that led to the arrest of McKinney after the positive identification of the remains were made,” Christ added.
Investigators are continuing to conduct interviews. Anyone with information is asked to call the Eufaula PD at 334-687-1200.
