Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood confirmed a 16-year-old student will be charged as an adult in connection to a Tuesday shooting at LeFlore Magnet High School.

The teen will be charged with two counts of assault, shooting on school grounds and certain persons forbidden to be in possession of a firearm. She will be given bonds totaling $180,000.

Blackwood said her bond conditions will include phone monitoring, house arrest, no contact with either victim, and she will not be allowed to be in possession of firearms.

Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said the student got into a verbal altercation with a 15-year-old male that ended when she produced a gun and pulled the trigger. The shooting happened in the hallway of the school.

A bullet grazed the 15-year-old, but another victim, a 17-year-old student, was shot in the abdomen.

The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

The suspect surrendered to police after her parents were notified.

No other injuries were reported.

School principal Dr. Antonio Williams sent the following letter to the community:

"I send this message with a heavy heart in response to the incident that occurred on campus today. Student safety is our top priority and we are deeply sadden [sic] about the decision of one student that placed the lives and safety of others in jeopardy. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community as we navigate this difficult time. I am proud of the way our faculty, staff, and student body responded to the situation, allowing everyone else to remain safe. I am also thankful to the parents who were patient with us as we secured the campus in accordance to our school's safety plan. This incident does not and will not define us at LeFlore. As demonstrated today, we have a caring community that support [sic] the work we are doing to Rediscover Excellence. Let's work together as a community to make sure nothing likes [sic] this happens again. Today, tomorrow, and always, we will be there to support our Rattler community!!!"
