A lineman from Tennessee died Tuesday due to injuries sustained from an alleged drunk driver on March 16.

According to WBRC, Thomas Dewayne Ferrell, 49, who was working for ARTIS Power Construction, was repairing power lines at the intersection of Ashland Highway/Mount Olive Circle and Mountain View Road when he was hit.

Ferrell was taken to UAB Hospital after the incident where he died Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Ferrell was walking across Ashland Highway in a fluorescent green safety jacket when he was hit by a 1995 Nissan pickup, driven by Miguel Manzana-Martinez, 45, according to WBRC.

Martinez was allegedly passing cars and driving erratically before Ferrell was hit, according to witnesses. Martinez is charged with first-degree assault and driving under the influence. He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond in the Talladega County Jail.
