The temperature is unlikely to cool in the upcoming runoff election for Alabama’s next attorney general, as current Alabama AG's office chief counsel Katherine Robertson and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell prepare to go head-to-head on June 16.

Mitchell and Robertson defeated Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey for a shot at the Republican Party's nomination on Tuesday.

Robertson received the majority of the votes, securing 189,183 votes (40.5%). Mitchell earned 160,616 votes (34.4%).

After Tuesday’s results, Robertson shared a terse message of gratitude on social media.

Mitchell also responded to the runoff, posting a celebratory video to his social media, telling the camera to “bring it on” whilst surrounded by cheering supporters.

Mitchell's campaign also sent out a release, giving a summary of Mitchell’s post-primary remarks that do not appear to have been filmed.

“Mitchell contrasted his Alabama-built, Alabama-backed campaign with that of his opponent’s, who is funded by nearly $2.2 million in dark money and at least $285,000 from an abortion mega-donor,” the release read. “96% of Mitchell’s funding comes from inside the state of Alabama, while only 44% of Robertson's funding is from the state.”

Robertson and Mitchell set themselves apart from Casey in the lead-up to the election by running attack ads and making accusations.
