U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) is calling for the Department of Homeland Security to face an independent investigation following the fatal shootings of two agitators by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

The Democrat claims that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Vice President JD Vance are engaging in a "cover-up" of the two incidents.

"We all have been watching the news in horror as federal ICE agents shot and killed two US citizens in Minneapolis, Alex Pretti and Renee Good," said Sewell in a video posted on X. "I am demanding a full and independent investigation of the Department of Homeland Security into the dangerous conduct of ICE that led to the killings of two Americans and the subsequent cover-up and blatant lies that were told by Secretary Noem, Vice President Vance and other Trump officials to justify the rogue actions of ICE are simply despicable."

"Every public official and federal agent responsible whose action and inaction led to these unjustified killings must be held accountable," Sewell stated.

The lawmaker also demanded that Senate Democrats join their House counterparts in voting "vote no this week" on a massive funding package that includes additional funding for DHS.

"We must be a united front in our efforts to hold Trump and his administration accountable," Sewell contended. "In addition, I've joined over 130 of my colleagues in Congress in sponsoring a petition to impeach Krisit, known as Secretary of Homeland Security. If we in Congress fail to act in this moment, we become complicit to this madness."

She continued, "Minneapolis today could be Birmingham tomorrow. ICE is out of control, and the American people deserve better. Wake up, my people."
