HUNTSVILLE — U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) spoke at the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Washington Update on Monday morning. During his remarks, the legislator touted President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" (OBBB) and its expected impact on Alabamians statewide.
Tuberville first addressed a massive submarine parts manufacturing facility set to open in Muscle Shoals, thanks to the legislation. The new facility, he said, is expected to create up to 1,500 jobs in the area.
"We secured the money [for the facility] in the One Big Beautiful Bill passed last year," Tuberville told the audience. "This is President Trump's dream of moving submarine and ship manufacturing back to the United States of America. We're going to reopen that 2.2 million square foot structure [Barton Railcar Plant] and transform it into a state of the art AI driven precision manufacturing facility. It's going to be one of a kind."
The lawmaker discussed Trump's working-family tax cuts in the OBBB, which provide a nearly $4,000 tax reduction to hardworking Americans, totaling $50 billion nationwide.
"I'm proud to have a huge report on President Trump's working family tax cuts," said Tuberville. "Americans will see a nearly $4,000 tax cut this year, which is a total of $50 million nationwide that will be put back in the economy by people who actually work in the state. We not only prevented the largest tax hike by doing this, because the Democrats wanted to go back up to almost 40%, but we wrote into the law critical provisions that are already delivering for Alabama."
He added, "Nearly 50 percent of all Alabamians benefit from this. Seniors and service industry workers, almost everybody. It would also remove taxes on overtime pay, which I was proud to lead in the Senate, along with no taxes on social security when you retire."
The OBBB also provides a down payment on the highly vaunted Golden Dome missile defense system. According to Tuberville, much of the Golden Dome will be manufactured and designed by Alabamians.
"The Israeli's have been able to shoot down 90% of the missiles with their Iron Dome, and it's impressive. There's no reason that we shouldn't have our own Golden Dome," Tuberville stated. "Thank goodness for President Trump. I remember President Reagan was talking about the Star Wars program. He was way ahead of his time, understanding that future wars would originate in space. He was exactly right. However, no other president has been bold enough to address this growing threat in space, until President Trump.
Funding to extend the Feral Swine Eradication program through 2031, a top priority for Tuberville, was additionally included in the OBBB.
"A lot of our priorities were in the One Big Beautiful Bill. We got input costs and tried to get them down. We got more reference prices up," explained Tuberville. "We secured $105 million dollars to help our farmers combat wild hogs. Last year alone, we had more than $50 million in damages to our farms by wild hogs."
He added, "You wanna give somebody a bad birthday present, give them a couple of hogs to put on their land."
