Alabama's congressional delegation promptly took to social media on Saturday following an apparent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

The president was reportedly rushed from the Washington Hilton after shots were reported at the event. The suspect was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, Calif.

The most forceful of the responses came from U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), who called the suspect a "lunatic," adding that "demonization of the President and Republicans needs to end."

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said she and her husband, Wesley, were praying for safety on the heels of the incident.

Most of Alabama's House delegation responded by condemning the violence, including the state's two Democrat federal lawmakers.

Trump posted updates to his Truth Social account throughout the evening, in addition to hosting a press briefing at the White House briefing room.
