The Colbert County Sheriff’s Department has credited three deputies for saving the life of a two-week-old baby.

Deputies Luke Truitt, Dakota Harper and Frank Anderson were called to assist a mother with her infant around 4:30 a.m. Friday. The mother was at the intersection of Highway 43 and 72 with her infant.

The deputies secured the baby, who was not breathing, and began lifesaving measures while driving to Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia. The baby was treated at the hospital and is expected to recover.

“We are extremely proud of Deputies Truitt, Harper, and Anderson for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to preserving life,” the sheriff’s department stated. “Their actions represent the very best of the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office.”

The deputies were under the supervision of Lt. Michael Terrell.
