TRUSSVILLE — On Tuesday, Decisions, Choices & Options, a group that promotes the teaching of sexual risk avoidance for youths, held its third annual dinner at Crosspoint Church.

The dinner featured State Rep. Susan DuBose (R-Hoover) and State Sen. Shay Shelnutt (R-Trussville), two advocates of sexual risk avoidance education in Alabama's schools. Attendees were also treated to a video message from conservative activist Riley Gaines, a staunch advocate for keeping men out of women's sports.

The mission statement of Decisions, Choices & Options, which started in 2002, reads, "We empower all youth with Sexual Risk Avoidance education by providing medically accurate programs that guide them to optimal health in every area of their lives." The program aims to combat school curricula based on radical sexuality, gender "culture" replacing biological science and a society presenting dangerous ideologies to children.

"There's not a greater cause than investing in this generation of youth," Decisions, Choices & Options president and founder Joi Wasill declared.

Wasill pointed out the major difference from when Decisions, Choices & Options began and where it is now with the introduction of smartphones and social media, which she noted had a "devastating" impact on today's youth.

"We believe that youth who learn to avoid the inherent lifelong risk associated with sexual activity prior to marriage become healthy youth who lead to successful adults who create thriving families and who creates strong communities," she added.
