ALBERTVILLE — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said outside forces are trying to buy the upcoming U.S. Senate election, which is why they've been attacking him and funding his main opponent in the primary race.
Marshall said Monday at a campaign rally on his home turf in Marshall County that out-of-state billionaires were trying to influence the election.
"They hate that I can't be bought or controlled. They hate the results that we've achieved. And so, now these out-of-state interests are trying to stop it," Marshall said. "If you want proof that we've been effective, just look at the millions of dollars they're spending to attack me and prop up one of my opponents. You don't draw that kind of fire unless they're scared, and they know that you've been effective."
Marshall referenced attack ads that he said spread false accusations against him and his record as AG.

"These out-of-state billionaires ain't from Alabama. California, New York, and Chicago and D.C. swamp insiders are now flooding this race with cash. They're spreading these false and negative attacks, all to buy the Senate seat. But know this, these aren't Alabamians. Most aren't even conservatives. They aren't for Trump. Y'all, they don't care about Alabama. They're America-last types, who spend now millions electing Democrats across our country, but also right here in Alabama. And now, they're backing my opponent. You've got to ask yourself the question, why?
Marshall said his campaign has been built on the grassroots efforts of his supporters, not with help from the "D.C. swamp."
"D.C. elites don't want me in Washington because they've seen what I've done to criminals and the gangs and corrupt policies. But the people of Alabama do want me there because you know I'm fighting for you and not them," he said.
Albertville businessman Tony Cochran, who spoke before Marshall, called out U.S. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) by name for being supported by out-of-state "crypto billionaires."
"They want to buy the next Senator for the state of Alabama. They learned early on they can't buy Steve Marshall. He can't be bought. So they bought his opponent, Barry Moore."
A recent poll by American Pulse Research & Polling showed Moore leading Marshall in the Senate race, 26% to 21%. Jared Hudson was in third place with 14.1%, and 35.1% were still undecided. The primary election is on May 19.
