U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) addressed the possibility of an upcoming lapse in funding for the Department of Homeland Security during a call with reporters on Wednesday,

According to the lawmaker, legislation to fund the federal agency is being blocked by Democrats, who hope to strip funding from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"They want open borders and to defund the police and law enforcement," Tuberville said. "Always remember that. They have made a ridiculous list of demands. They want to endanger ICE officers by forcing them to wear an ID while doing their jobs. We've already seen ICE officers being attacked by all these unhinged woke leftists while out in public."

"Forcing them to wear an ID with personal information while out in the streets puts them in danger."

Tuberville accused liberals of favoring mass amnesty and working to turn America into a third-world country, partly by obstructing law enforcement.

"Democrats also want to expand the areas that are off-limits for them to do their jobs. That's not how we work in this country," he stated. "Like it or not, federal law says that illegals should be deported. We have all allowed our officers to enforce the law, and the bottom line is, Democrats want mass amnesty. They don't want to enforce our laws because they hate this country the way it is."

Tuberville added, "As I've already said, any negotiations with Democrats that handcuff our ICE officers' ability to do their job is a definite no vote for me."
