The fiancée of Alireza Doroudi, a University of Alabama mechanical engineering doctoral student arrested by ICE in March, said on Monday that the incident “has pushed us past our limits.”
Doroudi is currently being held in the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana after initially being detained in Pickens County Jail, according to ICE.
“ICE HSI made this arrest in accordance with the State Department’s revocation of Doroudi’s student visa. This individual posed significant national security concerns,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement in March.
Sama Ebrahimi Bajgani, Doroudi’s fiancée, said on Facebook on Monday, “These past few days have been some of the hardest and most overwhelming I’ve ever experienced.”
“I’ve spent countless hours on the phone with Alireza, trying to make sure he has everything he needs and that he feels heard and understood. Some incredibly kind people sent him letters - and he received them. He told me he’s going to keep them close. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, on his behalf, for your support and kindness. This experience has pushed us past our limits, and these letters reminded us that we’re not alone - that we’re cared for and supported,” she added.
