Thomasville Regional Medical Center (TRMC) could reopen, according to Mayor Sheldon Day.
The hospital closed last fall due to funding issues, but Day said interested buyers are in talks with the bank. He said visits and negotiations are ongoing, but he cannot reveal potential buyers.
“Each of the potential purchasers have either signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with the bank or are about to,” said Day. “This means they have entered into confidential negotiations with them.”
Day revealed that at least two purchasers have made offers.
“At this point, there is no doubt there is a great interest from several of these folks to purchase and reopen TRMC,” he continued. “Our Healthcare Authority Chairman and/or I have been in communication with each of them and are encouraged by their interest and their stated plans for TRMC.”
“We still have a lot of work before us, but we are seeing some very encouraging signs,” he said.
Day cleared up a rumor that the hospital’s certificate of need (CON) had expired. He said there is still one year left before the CON expires. He said the state license for the hospital expired after the facility was closed for 30 days, but a new license could be easily obtained after hiring new staff and inspections.
The health care authority is vetting all potential buyers to ensure the quality of services.
“Our job is to vet all the potential purchasers, make sure they have the funding to sustain operations and grow the services for the long term and support them as they transition to ownership of TRMC,” Day stated on Facebook. “Please continue to keep all involved in your prayers until this process is complete. God has a plan and we want HIS chosen plan to be our plan!!! God Bless you all!!!”
