Thomasville Regional Medical Center (TRMC) suspended operations due to a staffing shortage, and it is unclear if and when it will reopen.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the awesome staff at TRMC,” said Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day. “They have been through more than anyone can imagine yet performed their jobs with great professionalism and character."

Community stakeholders will meet Monday to discuss the future of the hospital.

TRMC has been plagued by funding issues since COVID-19 federal funding ended in 2022. The hospital has 29 acute care beds and offers ancillary services.

"None of the circumstances currently being faced by TRMC are a result of the performance of their duties," Day said of the employees at the hospital.

Grove Hill Memorial, J Paul Jones Hospital in Camden and Choctaw General in Butler are other hospitals patients may choose from for care.
