The Franklin County Watermelon Festival announced its 2022 music lineup. Notable mentions in this year's lineup include Thomason Square, the Velcro Pygmies and Cody Bowen.

Thompson Square is a Grammy-nominated husband-and-wife country duet known for their multi-platinum mega-hit “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not.” They have won multiple CMA and CMT awards and earned number one records in three countries.

The Velcro Pygmies, originally from Louisville, Kentucky, are a high-energy 80s-style rock band that entertains audiences all around the country with big hair electric guitar solos.

Cody Bowen is a North Alabama native and country music singer. He released his newest single, “Wind This Weekend Down,” this year.

Cody Bowen, the Joseph Baldwin Band and the Velcro Pygmies will take the stage on Friday, August 19.

Tremayne, Rewind of the Shoals and Thompson Square will perform on Saturday, August 20.

The festival, free to attend, always takes place on the third weekend in August on Main Street in Russellville. It runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Earlier this year, the Watermelon Festival was voted Best Adult and Children’s Event in the Tennesee Valley in a reader’s choice poll conducted by the Franklin County Times earlier this year, according to northalabama.org.

Along with live music, the Watermelon Festival offers arts and crafts, watermelon contests, a car, truck and tractor show, food vendors and children’s activities. Festival goers can sample watermelon for free.
